Native Legacy and Newberg, Oregon History
The earliest people of the area included bands of the Kalapuya people, including bands of the Atfalati and Yamhill people who are now part of the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde.
Newberg was incorporated as a town in 1889 and population grew rapidly in the early 20th century, thanks in part to the growing Quaker population in the area. The Quaker influence kept Newberg a dry town until a 1966 vote overturned the ban of the sale of liquor. Today the population sits around 25,138 (2020 census).
